Naturally Enhanced Eyelashes — Easy DIY Serum
According to pregnancy wives’ tales, a baby girl steals her mother’s beauty.
Anyone who has had a baby girl (I’ve had three), can attest that it isn’t totally true. But my third daughter did steal my eyelashes. One hundred percent.
I didn’t even know that was a thing.
My eyelashes were broken, stumpy, and sparse towards the end of my pregnancy.
And then I gave birth to Bambi.
So, since Bambi refused to give me back my eyelashes (I mean they looked better on her than me), I had to rely on a natural serum to get my eyelash growth back on track. Years ago, I discovered a non-tox, natural DIY growth serum on Carli Bybel’s Youtube channel. It’s worked back then to provide naturally enhanced eyelashes, and still works today. It’s really simple and the ingredients are ones you’ve likely got sitting in your carrier oil stash.

Ingredients:
The DIY is a simple blend of three oils: castor oil, fractionated coconut oil, and avocado oil. They can be of any brand, as long as they aren’t diluted or contain other ingredients. Brands like Plant Guru, Now Solutions, and Aura Cacia have all worked well for me. Make sure the coconut oil is fractionated, as cold-pressed could add an unpleasant texture. (More about coconut oil types in this post!)
Steps:
- Pour 1oz. of fractionated coconut oil in a small glass jar (or an upcycled plastic one).
- Pour 1oz. of castor oil into the same bottle.
- Add 7 drops of avocado oil into the bottle.
- Mix by shaking vigorously.
- Clean and wipe dry an old mascara brush.
- Dip the brush into your bottle of serum, and stroke onto your bare, clean eyelashes the way you would apply mascara. *Bonus: this can be applied to the brows as well!*
- Repeat every night for one week to see results.
The results: Your eyelashes will be longer and definitely thicker. If you have had eyelash loss, you will experience healthy regrowth. In addition, if you wear makeup, this will make your mascara apply more dramatically.
If you do this for weeks and weeks in a row, you eventually just reach a “healthy” point where your eyelashes are as long and thick as they are going to be for a while. I usually don’t use the serum for weeks on end, because the eyelashes don’t really need it. I recommend doing it for two weeks straight, then taking a week off, then doing it for a week, and just rotating it into your nighttime beauty routine every other week, or whenever you experience loss/breakage.
Reminders for Naturally Enhanced Eyelashes:
– Definitely do this at night, as it wouldn’t work well under mascara.
– Apply this at room temperature. Don’t heat before application (OUCH).
– Keep the mascara wand clean. Dip it in once, and brush both sets of lashes. Wash it and let it dry overnight for your next use. DO NOT dip it back in after you’ve applied it to your lashes of you will risk bacterial conjunctivitis.
If you’ve ever experienced eyelash loss, or just want naturally enhanced eyelashes for the fun of it, give this DIY serum a try! Let me know in the comments below if there is a nourishing oil you would swap. I’m curious about sweet almond oil and golden jojoba myself!
