“March winds and April showers bring forth May flowers” — English Proverb

This has been an amazing month!  It totally lived up to it’s expectations.  Maybe that’s because it’s my birthday month and so I always have a lot of fun during it.  Or maybe I’m just feeling good about it because since May is almost over, my no-makeup-purchasing challenge is almost over too!! *let’s be honest*  Can’t wait for that.

At the beginning of the month, I always compile a list of what I’m looking forward to.  It helps motivate me and also just gets me excited for the future.  This is what I had going for May:

  1. Learn how to make salsa and guacamole from my friend.  She taught me and wow she has some good recipes!  I already made guacamole twice after the teaching session.
  2. Teach my baby how to sit up on her own.  She can do it now…As well as crawl and sit on her side and laugh and babble and basically just be an amazing little doll!
  3. Begin editing my book.  Hehe…oops.  Next month.
  4. Celebrate our birthdays! It was an amazing weekend: hiking, Starbucks, presents, red velvet cake, and just spending time together.
  5. Drive.  No fun at all.  I actually drove three whole times– once to practice, once to Mass, and once to pick my husband up from the field.  I made it, but I wasn’t a happy camper.
  6. Celebrate All-American week! It was a fun “festival” week and my baby and I enjoyed watching my husband play soccer in the tournament.
  7. Make a big, exciting, *scary,* important, wonderful change to my blog!  That would be this right here–look at the URL above and you’ll see I finally own my domain–whoohoo!!
  8. Focus on getting smooth, radiant skin and healthy, shiny hair.  I focused more on my skin then my hair (though I did try a few smootheners and I recently switched shampoo/conditioner brands).  My skin has been reacting well to my new regime, but I had to tweak it a bit…more to come on that later!

That was everything that was on my list, and I got 7/8 done!  That’s better than last month’s roundup, but I’m shooting for a perfect score next month.  We shall see.  You know me…

Some other things I enjoyed this month were: introducing my baby to the pool, planning our anniversary trip, watching the Twilight Saga movies, learning how to make homemade barbecue sauce…but best of all was hearing my baby say her first word: Mama. *heart melting*  It’s going to be hard for June to top May, but it just might!  Stay tuned for my June to-do list!!

What did you do this month?

Fashion Haul: More Charlotte Russe

IMG_20160406_143006

In the interest of not spending a lot of money on makeup, I made a pledge not to buy makeup for the entire month of May.

And instead, I went to the mall and bought clothes.

Logic.  Don’t we love it?

But really, I needed summer shorts.  I have mixed feelings about shorts in general (read: mixed feelings about the shorts I own).  It’s not that I hate shorts.  Quite the contrary, I basically live in them.  In my house.  But out of my house…yeah, um, no.  I just don’t like shorts that are long–I find them pretty unflattering on my legs.  And I don’t like wearing shorts that are short–it’s just not appropriate in public for my taste.

ENTER THE BELOVED, FEMININE, MID-LENGTH, SOFT-LINED LACE SHORTS.

I was blown away by these beauties.  They have a soft and stretchy waist that sits just perfectly on the hips.  They are breezy and light and perfect for the summer heat.  They are feminine and gorgeous and almost kinda feel like you are wearing a skirt, but do not worry— there are no 90’s “skort” vibes going on here.  They are the perfect balance of shorts, lace, and femininity.

IMG_20160525_154037

I got them in two colors.  It was buy one for $22 and then get the other for $6.  Random pricing, I know.  But still, a fair deal.

And then since I was there, I HAD to get two more of the body con cotton skirts.  I raved about them in my last haul because they are very rave-able.  Basically, picture a form-fitting pencil skirt in the world’s most comfortable cotton that sits ON YOUR HIPS, people.  Buisness doesn’t get any comfier than this.

And of course I bought it in two colors because, why not?  I’m pretty sure they were each $6.

And there you have it.  My money-saving-on-makeup Charlotte Russe shopping spree.  I hope it inspired you to go out and get some fun and feminine pieces for your wardrobe!  Maybe I even taught you a thing or two about finances: save up on makeup to spend out on clothes.  Stretching it?….yeah I think so.

New Blog Moments

D7WVGKA7QQ

I am doing something different here.  Generally, you won’t see too many “administrative” posts from me.  I’m not sure why.  Administration is like a hobby to me. haha  But I usually tend to post “full-sided” posts which have a theme and maybe photos and aren’t just a compilation of my ramblings.  Though there is definitely rambling in those posts.

Anyway, I felt compelled to write a little bit about where I’ve been, since this has been the longest I’ve gone between posts since I first started my blog.  Consider this a catch-up and blog-reveal all bundled up into one administrative package.  *squeals*

For starters, I moved my blog.  You may remember this from my last post, but…WE MOVED.  My old blog was the same name, JJheartBlog, but it was at wordpress.com, not a self-hosted domain.  You can visit it here to share a loving good-bye tear with me.  And I still nostalgically love it.  (Can you be nostalgic about something that is only one-month gone?…I digress.  But yes, I am).  I loved that blog.  It taught me (almost) everything I know about blogging.  I will miss it.  But I never intended to keep it longer than half a year.  It was supposed to be my fledgling blog that slowly taught me how the blogging world went, so that one day I could grow up and own a domain for myself and become a real-life blogger.  It did, and I have.  (Well, I have purchased a domain…the real-life blogger thing is a work-in-progress).

Moving blog content from one spot to another is easier said then done.  Moving emotional content from one spot to another is never easy.  At all.  But I finally did it!  It took me a good, solid two weeks to move, set-up, prep, and launch.  But everything is finally in place.  My new blog is up and running and here to stay.

So I really hope that you are here to stay too!  Pour yourself a cup of coffee and visit me from time to time.  I love visiting my visitor’s blogs too.  Let me know you stopped by and I’ll find you back.  And if you’re not a blogger yourself, let me know if you’d be interested in a series where I explain how I got started and learned (read: AM LEARNING) to blog.

Okay, that’s everything.  Admin out.  See you next post!

Among the changing months, May stands contest The sweetest, and in fairest colors dressed.

– James Thomson

May has always been on of my most favorite months!  Maybe that is because it’s my birthday month. 🙂  And my husband’s birthday month!  But also because it is the month that really closes out Spring for me, and welcomes Summer and all which that season brings.

I always have high hopes for each month and season!  And I have quite a few fun things planned for May.  One of them involves the blog and taking a very big step…and I would share details now, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise!  Here are some top things I’m looking forward to doing this month:

  1. Learn how to make salsa and guacamole from my friend. Yummy.
  2. Teach my baby how to sit up on her own. She’s doing so good with crawling now!
  3. Begin editing my book.  For real this time.
  4. Celebrate our birthdays! SOOO much fun.  Our birthdays are one day after the other.
  5. Drive.  It will be my first time since the accident.  I don’t want to, but I have to.
  6. Celebrate All-American week! This is as close to “festival” as the Army gets!
  7. Make a big, exciting, *scary,* important, wonderful change to my blog!
  8. Focus on getting smooth, radiant skin and healthy, shiny hair.  I mentioned this in an earlier post, but basically I want to shift focus from trying every new makeup product out there and instead hone in on nourishing my skin and hair.

What are your plans for May?
